------------------------------ Fooling With Operator Services ------- by: mechanic --------- You might be wondering what the hell are operator services? Operator services is an area of voice processing that entails several different functions based upon how it is applied. Operator services are operations that have traditionally been performed by human operators, such as Automated Call Distribution (ACD), International Callback, Directory Assistance (411), and Credit/Debit Card Validation and services. Operator services are availible through voice processing applications are used by many of us in out daily routines. Automated Call Disribution (ACD) Call reception and distribution, commonly referred to as automated attendant or ACD or distributor is the answering of your local general business lines by an automated attendant (the voice processing system). The ACD allows the caller to enter an extension number (like on a PBX or VMB) and/or presents a list of departments to be transferred to. Online name directories are also availible on many systems. The caller also has the option to be transferred to a live operator, typically by pressing zero. These systems are usually used in conjuction with voice-mail sysems or integrated in multiapplication platforms. What we will be fooling with ACD is the option to speak to a live operator. When you call up a VMB or get an automated prompt when you call a company, usually scince there are many, many, many lines with big businesses, they usually have a PBX. Now what you want to do is find a number or extension such as customer service with a large company. When you call customer services, tell them you dialed the wrong extension, and/or forgot the extension and would like to speak with the operator, and patch your call to the operator. Now then, when the operator sees your call coming in, she will see it is coming from inside the company. Now, here's where you need to apply your social engineering skills, you must try to convince the operator that you are at that company, which is all set already because your call was transferred to there from the customer service department. Ask the operator real nicely, tell her you are new there, and that you need to get an outside line, and don't know or forgot the code to dial-out. Ask her if she can give it to you. 90% of the time this will work, the best thing to do would be to op-divert your call to the customer service dept. so just in case, to be safe. Now then, that was an easy way to get the code to dial-in and dial-out of a PBX now wasn't it? You can use your imagination with this to try to coax information out of anyone in the company that may be useful. International Callback What this is, is a service that lets you call out of the US for 30% to 70% cheaper than it would be to call outside of the US directly. This is how it works. Very basically, a user sets up an account with an international callback supplier (which can be obtained by calling up your telco, and getting a number). The user then is assigned a telephone number and an authorization code. The user also specifies a specific telephone number that the callback system will call when it is signalled. When the user wants to make a long-distance call, he or she first makes a call from the callback number earlier specified. The international callback system does not answer the call, but directly after the rings stop, it calls the predefined callback telephone number, which is like a forwarded number to your line. The user then answers the call and is promted to input the authorization code. After verification, the user is supplied a dial tone from the US, at which time multiple calls can be placed anywhere in the world at a reduced rate. Many of you are probably thinking ways of which this can be exploited to gain free calls. Welp, here's what to do. Set up call forwarding or a gold box or something on a business line, one that won't be missed by a large company. Now setup an account to the big company, or with a credit card (hopefully not yours), and then get the number to call that big company's line, which will be forwareded to a loop line, because, if you set the company's forwarded line directly to your house, welp, you can get caught very easily. Now that you have done that, call the loop line, and wait on one end, next, call the Callback System (CS) and have it ring that number wich is forwared to the business, which is forwarded to the loop line / house line, goldbox, whatever, and you are all set to make free calls to anywhere. I hope this has taught you a few ways to make free ld, and a little about some services that are exploited, but you don't really know much about. Remember, the phone service is a gift, use it correctly, and you could have alot of fun.
